720p, 1080i and 1080p: High Definition Explained
720p, 1080i and 1080p: High Definition Explained. High Definition is available in three formats - 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Here, NetTV’s John Palmer explains the difference between the three, highlighting 1080p being the best. The difference between 720p and 1080i is an argument that would rage forever!

720P, the picture will be smoother
what about for gaming,my tvs got only up to 1080i/720p and for my ps3 i cant decide
i play sports and FPS games the most
youtube says the support videos in 720p format, so if i upload a video that is in 1080p how will this churn out?
Any chance of seeing this video in HD format on YouTube? Good explanation actually. We have a Marantz 52″ Plasma which is a maximum of 1080i (which our commercial TV stations sometimes broadcast in), and when the broadcast is in true 1080i HD, (and not down coverted), with 5.1 sound, the whole experience is stunning, especially with Aussie Rules footy and Australian Idol.
What HD resolution will broadcasters like BBC and Sky be using?
well…then u can’t watch in 1080p if ur gfx card can’t handle it, i mean it’s like having a wii/ps2 on a full HD tv, it wouldn’t be full HD, also u would need hdmi (possible with monster component cables? i’m not sure) for getting the most out of it, even if it would be up to 1080i or 720p hdmi is a very good choice, i am using it with my 60gb ps3 and 1080i tv =)!, n yh 1080p can downscale to 1080i and 720p, so is ok…
i sed my gfx card can do upto1080i but my tv can do upto 1080p
i thought u meant ur tv is a 1080i tv, aka hd ready not 1080p ready…
my tv can display 1080p so i dont know wat ure talking about, saying tv cnt display 1080i
your tv can only display 1080i and 720p, not 1080p. Yes 1080p tvs can display 1080i.
my pc is capable of 1080i does that mean it can also do 1080p and can 1080p tvs display 1080i videos?
yes i am backtracking
only because that is the important thing
I’m sorry if I got a little mean but I was just pointing out something funny
I shouldn’t have taken it to this level
but you shouldn’t have EITHER
well I’m sorry
I don’t want to make the youtube community any less awesome
I see you’re now backtracking to the beginning - a 360 if I ever heard of one. Now all you have to do is either walk away - or vanish into the “ether.”
I don’t care how many youtubers’ mistakes you have corrected, which by the way is probably more than just one, your comment was stupid in the first place
I mean, “Do you know why they call it an Xbox 360? Because the first time someone sees it they turn 360 and walk away from it.” Really, how dumb can you be?
I only corrected one youtuber’s mistake - yours - and it only took a few seconds. Does this mean I have wasted my life or that I don’t have one?
Considering that you spend your days leaving stupid comments and correcting
other youtubers’ spelling mistakes,
I’m sure that you have no life.
Anyone would know how lame you are just by reading your comments on this page.
Pointing out your spelling error PROVES that I have no life? You don’t even know me.
Why are people saying that ps3 1080p is better than xbox 360 1080p its the same thing on both consoles what helps out though more is what kind of tv a person has and the dynamic contrast ratio a 1:10,000 contrast will be better than a 1:7,000 I have a highdef 1080p computer monitor that has no screen lag and can hook up to any HD componant…it looks amazing…
wow, pointing out a spelling mistake
great comeback
man you have no life
What is this “360 ether”? Is that where you turn 360 after seeing an xbox 360 and vanish into the ether?
sorry Mal I’m not a fan of the 360 ether but that was pretty stupid
Thanks a lot man, really broke everything down for me. Now I can go into a bestbuy next time without being unsure about which one I want.
Don’t make me laugh, I’m the one telling the joke here not you, Alexandre Dumass.
IF you turn 360, You would look at it. So you would walk into it, Dumbass.
Do you know why they call it an Xbox 360? Because the first time someone sees it they turn 360 and walk away from it.
