My Sony Wega 50″ was dying (some sort of mirror issue causing blue streaks in the picture. Its apparently very prevelant in this model, but I have not gotten much response from Sony for a post warranty fix and from what hear its close to $1000 to repair). I was also 2 years + into my second bulb ($400).

So I’ve had my eye out for a larger HD tv for several months now. I dont need PIP (comes with brighthouse DVR) and dont really care about sound since I pipe the cable/DVD audio to my reciever. I was just looking for a big, clear 1080p set. I saw this model in this week’s circuit city flyer (Jan 27, 2008) for $1399!.

I got the tape measure out to make sure it would fit in my built-in media space and went to CC to check it out. With standard HD inputs (probably 1080i). This set appeared to have the best picture of all the projection units on the wall (with the exception of a Mitubisi 75″ unit that the salesman said was playing a 1080p HD DVD). I measured it out, and with my existing tv stand it fit in the media space with about 1 inch to spare on all sides.

We loaded it my truck and took it home. In 20 minutes I had it fired up (well, almost, I needed to go buy an HDMI cable for $35). I’ve only got 1 day on it, but its a stunning picture and makes a huge difference from my 50″ Sony. My viewing distance is probably longer than most (maybe 15′ to the couch) Anyway, if you are looking for a decent DLP set with a big picture and dont need a lot of useless bells and whistles get down to CC and check this one out. For $1600 I’d probably look around a bit more, but at $1399 this set tripped my price trigger and I’m quite happy with it.

Best 1080P for the price. I bought this hdtv in August 2007 after shopping for a hdtv for about 2 and a half years, mainly waiting for prices to drop and for 1080p models to come out instead of then current 720p models. It has been 5 months and I have NO bulb issues as of yet, but I have the bulb set to low power and do not turn it off and on frequently. The 1080p display is wonderful with an HDMI cable, I have this oneInspire 1080p (6.6ft) 2M HDMI PS3 Cable 1.3b Certified. Screen size is just the right size for watching football and using a PS3 for both gaming and Blu-ray movies.The HDMI inputs on this set are 1.3 even though it is not mentioned anywhere in the description. I am happy with my Toshiba.

Customer Review: Probably the best TV out there for the price, but its got some quirks. The first thing we looked for in a TV was the picture, and mitsubishi really hit the nail on the head there, the colors are beautiful, however quite substantial motion lag is noticed. I liked the picture of the Samsung DLPs more, but they were also considerably more expensive. I have hooked my laptop up to the screen via the PC connection and the picture is AMAZING, but have not tried out the usb input yet. The number of HDMI’s is fine for me.

The interface is pretty good, it is simple to switch between inputs and the sound is OK, but as some other reviewers have said, some fiddling with it is necessary. The fan is quite obnoxious if you are close to the TV, but at a regular sitting distance for this TV(about 15-20 feet) It is not noticeable. I have never been bothered by the sound of the cooling fan other than when I go back behind the TV to connect something. It is quite loud then, and the fan is really quite forceful, it blasts hot air out of the left hand side and kept blowing things off of a shelf we had next to it.

This leads me to question how the TV would operate without the ventilated location it has in my home, and that it might easily overheat. The one thing that I really dislike about this TV is that the bulb burnt out after only 8 months of use. We sent for a new one under its one year warranty and it shipped actually quite quickly. So their customer support was impressive, but I just don’t understand why the bulb on this one doesn’t last. We had another DLP TV before this one and the bulb on on that one never burnt out. I can only hope that the new one doesn’t burn out because by that time it will be out of warranty and these bulbs run for around $250. Yikes!!!

Customer Review: Poor color tuning & a hum I bought this Mitsubishi to replace a smaller Sony HDTV and had it for three days before returning it. There were two problems: First the TV cast a very noticable blue cast on dark colors including people’s hair, walls, and virtually anything dark. There is little black or gray. There are three factory settings for color adjustment: Brilliant the default factory setting, which cast the blue cast, bright, and natural. The best picture is the brilliant, and to get rid of the the blue one has to go to a very dim “natural” picture.

If I wanted to watch a dim picture I could buy a used standard definition TV for virtually nothing. The set has great color controls, but no matter what I did, including lowering the blue drive I could not get rid of the problem. The hum many others have commented on starts out low and after an hour is very noticable. I had no such problems with the Sony, and I also have a Samsung, both of which had no problems like this. I bought a Toshiba 65″ to replace the Mitsubishi, and I could immediately tell the picture was going to be great. Buy at your own risk.

Customer Review: Big Bang Theory
I bought this TV (from SC) because it is simply the best large (65″) flat screen TV for the money. Period. Not without flaws, blacks could be blacker, backlight uniformity could be better, heavy as heck, not the thinnest flat panel of this size… but it has a high end video processor built in, it is very well built, and unless we are talking dark and murky scenes, a terrifically detailed image (as long as the source signal is good) with excellent color rendition.

The screen has a factory calibrated 6500k color temperature setting, but for some crazy reason, it isn’t the factory default. A few of the usual adjustments after chooisng the 6500k setting such as turning the brightness down and adjusting the contrast, football looks fantastic. I chose this TV after considering the Panasonic 65″ 1080p plasma, the Samsung 63″ plasma, and the Sharp 65″ LCD. Since this isn’t in a dedicated home theater, reflections and light pollution are negatives on the plasma side of the equation. The Sharp 65″ was a lot more money and the value equation landed firmly on the side of this Olevia 65″ LCD. After two weeks, I have yet to find a single bad pixel.

After 11 years of working in A/V technology at a university, I can say that finding a few bad pixels is on an LCD display is an all too common occurrence. Olevia obviously means to become a player in the industry and I would say if this TV is an example of their ability to ship a first rate quality product out the door, then they are well on their way to doing so.
